In 2013, Monteverdi opened its fine dining restaurant in the heart of the village of Castiglioncello. In homage to the enchanting beauty of the region, the restaurant is named Oreade, after the mythological Greek nymphs and goddesses that were believed to populate mountains and forests. This reverence for nature is reflected in the restaurant’s menu, which is dedicated to farm-to-table eating, and sources only the freshest local Tuscan food for its recipes. The view over the magnificent valley and mountains of the Val d’Orcia visually maps the distance food has traveled. Seasonality remains fundamental while allowing guests to eat in harmony with the changing landscape around them and with the season’s natural bounty. Castiglioncello del Trinoro is a spectacular location for the restaurant, engaging not only the eyes and of course the palate, but giving diners a taste of what is to come in the balmy aromas that fill the air of Monteverdi.
Chef Giancarla Bodoni was instrumental in the planning and opening of the restaurant. For nearly two decades, Ms. Bodoni has been hailed a pioneer among female chefs—leading the organic/raw-food/farm-to-table charge from her upscale Italian restaurant Escopazzo.
To make Oreade a truly great restaurant, I went back to the basics: the purest, best ingredients I could find and never compromised on quality and freshness. I am so excited to be part of Oreade because its location in Tuscany will afford me and our other chefs access to the best, freshest and most savory ingredients in the world. My passion is to make Oreade one of the very best ‘destination’ restaurants in Tuscany and the world.

ENOTECA AT MONTEVERDI
The Enoteca at Monteverdi is an intimate and inviting wine bar, featuring 32 splendid Italian wines by the glass and many more by the bottle. Located on the piazza in Castiglioncello, the Enoteca is the perfect place for lunch followed by an afternoon of wine tasting. Our wines for tasting by the glass are perfectly preserved in state-of-the-art stainless steel Enomatic dispensers. Each week at the Enoteca, a leading winemaker in Tuscany hosts a wine tasting featuring his or her best wines and, indeed, some of the finest wines in the world. These weekly wine tastings are true master classes in wine and the art of wine making. The food at our Enoteca matches its great wines. Open daily for lunch and aperitivi, the menu boasts fresh garden salads, the finest regional meats and cheeses, just-baked panini and crostini, and homemade gelato. Designed to nourish our guests throughout the day, the Enoteca is open from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. We are delighted to offer the Enoteca to complete the culinary experience at Monteverdi, thereby satisfying all appetites, big or small.
The sleek and seductive Library Bar serves a wide selection of beverages, ranging from regional brews, sparkling wines and classic martinis. In addition to delectable cocktails, the Library Bar offers breath-taking views of the Val d’Orcia and Monte Cetona. PRIVATE CHEF AND COOKING LESSONS
The dining opportunities at Monteverdi are unparalleled. If you are taking advantage of our villa accommodations, in-villa dining with a chef at Monteverdi is a delightful sensory treat. From aperitivi to dolci, our chefs create meals that are as delicious as they are memorable. Whether you choose to have an intimate dinner for two prepared by a chef in the privacy of your villa or a large gathering of family and friends on a private veranda overlooking the Val d’Orcia, we can tailor an authentic Tuscan dining experience for you, for an additional charge.
Additionally, Monteverdi is pleased to provide cooking lessons for our guests and create a journey of culinary discovery in the comfort of your own villa kitchen. Our chefs are experts in the cuisine di Toscano – one of the world’s great agricultural regions – and they source most ingredients within a few kilometers of the village. Using these ingredients, guests can learn how to prepare all manner of Tuscan fare, including pasta, sauces, meat, wild game and desserts. Cooking lessons are by reservation only. Villa guests may reserve cooking lessons in the privacy of their own kitchen, Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 11:00 to 12:30. Hotel guests may reserve cooking lessons in our full service restaurant, Oreade, Tuesday and Thursday, from 11:00 to 12:30. Reservations are limited and taken on a first come basis.
In 2014, Chef Giancarla will conduct a week-long cooking school at Monteverdi. Bringing her incredible talents and creativity to host intimate cooking lessons, guests will work side-by-side with Giancarla to create organic, authentic Italian cuisine. The Culinary Academy is scheduled for November 8 – 15, 2014, which will focus on the late harvest, including fresh olives and prized truffles. The fee of $10,000 per couple includes multiple hours of cooking lessons with Giancarla; tours of the very best vineyards in the famous Tuscan regions of Brunello and Vino Nobile di Montepulciano; seven nights at the luxurious Monteverdi; a five-course dinner prepared by Chef Giancarla to celebrate the week; and wine tastings complemented by local cheeses and meats throughout the week.
